Sustainability

Service Center

CXI’s new state-of-the-art service center paved the way to our invigorated sustainability plan. We are extremely proud that the steps taken while building the facility earned us a Silver LEED Certification which exemplifies sustainability. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the world's most widely used green building rating system in the world. Available for virtually all building types, LEED certification provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings, which offer environmental, social and governance benefits. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement, and it is backed by an entire industry of committed organizations and individuals paving the way for market transformation.

Metrics by which our building obtained LEED:

  • Recycling building parts during demolition.
  • We didn’t bring any soil offsite or bring any onsite during construction.
  • Rainwater and stormwater runoff management minimize water runoff. The goal is to have water end up in our detention ponds where it is stored and filtered naturally before entering the city’s stormwater facilities.
  • Landscaping techniques, the use of easy to maintain and sustainable plants/trees and grass.
  • The use of LED Green lighting throughout the building.
  • Green approved bathroom features.

Electronic Documents

CXI’s transportation management software allows us to significantly reduce our paper usage by utilizing EDI, SFTP, API and electronic invoices for our customers. According to a study by the Road Runner, paper makes up 70% of office waste. Perhaps more surprising is that the average office worker uses about 10,000 sheets of paper per year.

Forklifts

CXI has recently made the switch to equip all forklifts with state-of-the-art non-marking tires. Aside from not leaving black marks on the ground, one of the top benefits of non-marking forklift tires is that they don’t produce a black dust. As traditional forklift tires begin to experience wear, they emit a black dust into the air. In addition to reducing the air quality of the space, such dust can lead to food or sample contamination and create an unclean environment. Additionally, these tires allow for lower rolling resistance and energy consumption. Lower rolling resistance equals better energy efficiency. This means lower combustible consumption for fuel and gas-powered forklifts, and increased battery life for electric forklifts.

CXI has also introduced electric forklifts into our fleet.  Electric forklifts produce zero emissions which drastically diminish our carbon footprint due to no more exhaust fumes or other toxic gasses. There are also lower energy costs associated as these energy-efficient trucks only consume the energy they truly need and idling is completely eliminated.

Recycle Program

While some paperwork may always be necessary, taking steps to encourage recycling and reducing unnecessary paper can save thousands of trees each year. Every office and cubicle have their own container designated exclusively for paper to be recycled and CXI has contracted a third-party to pick up our recyclables twice a week.
